The hospital

Baobab Maternity Hospital will serve as a super specialist referral hospital for Dar es Salaam region and the wider Eastern Zone including Morogoro and Pwani region.It will focus on providing life saving emergency obstetric care for complicated deliveries and specialist neonatal care. While obstetric and neonatal services form the core service, Baobab Maternity Hospital will provide health services which also include gynaecology and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases along with HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment.

CCBRT’s pro-poor policy will ensure equal access to health services for all. Continuity of individual care is important to reduce maternal as well as newborn deaths throughout the lifecycle (adolescence, pregnancy, childbirth, the postnatal period and childhood). The new maternal health services will also have a community aspect which will ensure a ceaseless flow of care from the clinical setting into the community.

The provision of 4 additional delivery suites, 4 major and 2 minor operating theatres, 60 obstetric beds, 30 kangaroo mother care beds, 110 neonatal cots and 20 private patient beds at Baobab Maternity Hospital will enable CCBRT to contribute significantly to an increase in availability of comprehensive emergency obstetric care and specialised neonatal care on a 24 hour basis.
