The community

CCBRT will also provide maternal and newborn health services and support in the communities. These will focus on health education on maternal and newborn care, recognition of danger signs during pregnancy and in newborns, emergency preparedness, breastfeeding, nutrition and hygiene, immunization, healthy lifestyles and the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS.

Another important aspect of the community programme will be the referral of vulnerable women and children, including those who are preterm and HIV positive, from Baobab Maternity Hospital to the community support centres. They will provide additional support to women and newborns in fragile physical or social situations and ensure that they are referred, where required, for treatment at the appropriate level of the health system. Community workers will also provide home-based follow up of women and newborns where required.
