Building capacities

Developing the skills and capability of health workers in Tanzania is an intrinsic aspect of Baobab Maternity Hospital’s core activities. By providing high quality training, CCBRT aims to contribute to the strengthening of maternal and newborn health services in Tanzania over the long term. In collaboration with national and international training institutions, CCBRT has started to conduct regular training sessions in basic emergency obstetric and neonatal care, essential newborn care (PEP course) and quality assurance using national training curricula. Further training topics from 2012 onwards include kangaroo mother care as well as comprehensive emergency obstetric care. Focus on these core areas is essential for the sustainable improvement of maternal and newborn care in the country. CCBRT provides continuous mentoring support to all staff trained. In addition, CCBRT supports renovations and expansions of operating theatres and maternity wards of high volume clinics in the region as well as provision of essential equipment and supplies to uplift the standards of service provision in the region. All activities are planned and implemented in collaboration with the Regional Health Management Team of the Dar es Salaam City Council.

Once Baobab Maternity Hospital is operational, CCBRT will offer fellowship training programmes as well as short-term in-service training for other health service providers.
