Baobab Maternity Hospital
The start of a new life should be a time of joy. However for many women in Africa, being pregnant and giving birth are extremely risky stages of life. Each year thousands of women, newborns, and children die or develop life-long disabilities before, during and after delivery. The majority of these deaths and disabilities could be avoided. The interventions that could save lives and prevent disabilities are well known, but are often not available to those most in need.
Baobab Maternity Hospital is a new hospital to be built in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Every year it will save thousands of lives, reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS and prevent the occurrence of disabilities. The construction will commence in November 2011 and operation is expected to start in 2014.
